From “TIMOTHY EARL SOLOMON” AKA “POPPIN PETE”
” This is POPIN PETE and I must speak on this, the problem isn’t all on the DANCERS, the dance studios has to take some of the blame also, having 5000 frickin classes that teach the same damn movements but under different names, I.E JAZZ HIP HOP, JAZZ FUNK, HIP HOP IN HEELS, POLE DANCING HIP HOP so on and so on, in these classes they don’t teach TECHNIQUE or history, cause they dont have time for that, its about how many combo’s i can get up on YOUTUBE, and a lot of it is bad flashy ass moves, TAKE NOTE PEOPLE, A CHOREOGRAPHER IS DIFFERENT from A DANCE INSTRUCTOR, A choreographer is one who creates choreographies. Choreography is the art of designing sequences of movements in which motion, form, or both are specified. Choreography may also refer to the design itself, which is sometimes expressed by means of dance notation. The word choreography literally means “dance-writing” taken from the Dictionary, so choreo isn’t a DANCE STYLE!!! Now on to a dance instructor, Dance instructors must be good communicators, as they are required to not only show the dance steps and techniques, but they must be able to explain them but break them down in ways that people understand them. and my travels i have seen many many choreographed dancer do great in a class setting, but soon as you ask them to dance alone many will freeze up and act like they never heard of dancing before. The instructor might only be teaching one or two students, but often they are teaching large groups of students, which makes explanations harder. This means the instructor must have a solid understanding of the movements and techniques before becoming a teacher.”
